Rubber Octopus

Three worlds converge in this sculptural lighting piece to produce an intriguing result, rich in references. The dieselpunk, post-apocalyptic, retro-futuristic style of the inner tube. The delicate yet highly industrial and medical world of the glass modules. The contrasting organic and visceral nature of the overall shape. This research around ribbons of glass and rubber goes beyond simply repurposing materials. It gives them genuine aesthetic and narrative value. The cord acts as a spinal column onto which the glass modules are inserted, like a flexible, elastic ligament that holds together rigid and fragile bones. The modular and replicable nature of the system allows the project to be deployed and multiplied on different scales to create compositions.

This piece was created for the TRY AGAIN? open call of Lionel Jadot and has been exhibited for Curated at the Mix Hotel, Brussels.
